Women represent our business in every department and at all levels, including apprentices, negotiators, commercial specialists, new homes experts, and company directors. Since Tuesday 8th March is International Women’s Day, it gives us a most fitting opportunity to celebrate our good fortune at having so many incredible women working across the company.

What is International Women’s Day (IWD)?

Let’s turn to the official website for all things IWD, since it explains it best:

“International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.”

IWD is close to our hearts (as are the great women we work with), and we’re proud to have strong women leading the way at Michael Jones. We also recognise that more needs to be done to accelerate gender equality across the board, which is why this year’s theme for IWD resonates so well…

IWD theme for 2023: #EmbraceEquity

Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

We asked three inspiring women from around the business a different question to find out what inspires them to reach their goals, how they aim to get there, what makes them most proud, and any advice they have for other women.

Which women have inspired you in life or in your career?

Juliette: There are many women who have inspired me throughout my life, but some of the most influential are my mother, who has always encouraged me to pursue my dreams, and Oprah Winfrey, who is a powerful advocate for women's education and empowerment.

Do you have a life/work motto?

Bev: Don’t have any regrets. Just learn from the difficult situations that occur from time to time.

If you could have dinner with three inspirational women dead or alive, who would it be?

Bev: I love a good female comedian, so I would love to have dinner with Joanna Lumley, Dawn French, and also Sandra Bullock.  All performers but also intelligent and inspiring women.

What are you most proud of in your career?

Ella: Recently completing my apprenticeship and going onto a lettings negotiator role. It is much more responsibility but I love it.

What was your dream job when you were younger?

Ella: When I was younger, I wanted to study to become an archaeologist as I was fascinated with the Ancient Egyptians.

What's the best thing about being a woman?

Juliette: I think women are strong, powerful, and empathetic and make great leaders. I think it's important to lift each other up and advocate for one another.

What advice would you give to women wanting to start a career in property?

Juliette: My advice to women wanting to start a career in property is to be confident in your abilities and never be afraid to ask questions or seek out opportunities for growth. It's also important to find a mentor or supportive network to help navigate the industry.

How would you describe your dream house?

Bev: The one I live in!  I have moved many times in my life and I now live in a lovely house that we designed and remodelled to suit us and our families, so I would like to live in it for a long time!!

Juliette: My dream house would a light, airy house by the sea. Somewhere I could host friends and family and have an open-door policy. Also, a large private garden to sunbathe in is very important!

Ella: My dream house would be a property with lots of character, close to the sea, and a large garden for all of the cats that I will have. 😺
