This International Women's Day, we're thrilled to share the inspiring journey of our Branch Secretary, Bev Baker. Her knowledge, passion and dedication to her work continue to empower and inspire us daily.

How has your role evolved since you first started?

I started my property career in 2004 and quickly realized it was an industry I truly enjoyed. With a long-standing interest in property, I was grateful to pursue this passion. Joining Michael Jones and Company in 2010, I've enjoyed roles in the commercial and lettings departments while always staying involved in residential sales, gaining a wide and varied range of experience.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the property industry?

My best friend, a highly respected branch manager at a local estate agency, inspired me to enter the industry. With her encouragement, I took the plunge and haven't looked back.

Have you faced any challenges in the property industry? How did you overcome them?

There have been many challenges along the way, including daily issues that keep the role interesting and varied. Finding smooth resolutions to these challenges is always satisfying.

Can you share a moment where you felt like you were making a real impact?

I made a difference during our IT system change by taking responsibility for communicating the updates to colleagues and becoming the go-to person for any questions or inquiries.

What achievement are you most proud of in your career?

I recently had the honour of being nominated for an 'Outstanding Achievement' award, and I was very proud to be one of the nominees.  

How do you try to inspire others?

I inspire others to be conscientious, open to learning, and embrace change. With many opportunities for advancement, I believe it's important to be a loyal and trusted team member, helping everyone make the most of their role and advance their careers.

What advice would you give other women aspiring to enter the property industry?

I encourage women aspiring to join the property industry to "just go for it." It's a fascinating career with no two days the same, so seize the opportunity—it could take you places you never expected.
