Steve proudly presented the Worthing Society for the Blind with a cheque for £1,500 after taking part in the Brighton Marathon. He raised the staggering amount in just ten days and successfully completed the course in 4 hours and twenty four minutes.
This year marks the hundredth anniversary of the Worthing Society for the Blind, which provides support, general welfare, entertainment, education and financial assistance, for people living with Vision Impairment in the Worthing area. It relies completely on voluntary donations and receives no local or national government funding.
John Baker, Chief Executive of the Worthing Society for the Blind said: “We are absolutely delighted with Steve’s Marathon efforts. With the wonderful amount he has raised the society is now able to purchase new equipment for our member activity sessions expanding what we are able to offer people living with vision impairment in Worthing. Thank you to Steve, his sponsors and Michael Jones for their continued support”
Steve commented: “I’m really chuffed to have beaten my fundraising target of £1,000 for the Worthing Society for the Blind and to have run and completed my first marathon, especially as the hot weather made it all the more challenging. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported me. Their generosity and good wishes kept me going right up until I crossed the finishing line.”
The Worthing Society for the Blind has three places available for the Brighton 2012 Marathon. Anyone interested in running in next year’s event should contact Chris Gaskell on 01903 235782 or visit www.worthingsocietyfortheblind.co.uk
