Rollover image to enlargeA Worthing care home will echo to the sound of residential guests once more thanks to Michael Jones Commercial finding the perfect buyer for it. It took just two months from Michael Jones re-marketing Wraysbury House in Beccles Road to complete the sale to a former care home operator.
Despite the difficult market Wraysbury House attracted a lot of interest from both the residential and commercial property sectors. Several offers were received for the vacant Edwardian property, resulting in a competitive situation between owner occupiers of care homes, day centres and nurseries, and private buyers and developers.
At its peak it provided accommodation for up to 23 vision impaired residents with a full suite of facilities equipped with industry standard fixtures and fittings for disabled guests. It has been owned and managed by the Worthing Society for the Blind (WSFTB) since 1959 but closed its doors as a care home in 2007.
Chief Executive of the WSFTB, John Baker, said: "We are pleased with the service we received from Michael Jones and were particularly impressed with their proactive marketing. To achieve several offers under tough conditions is an excellent result. They guided us through the ups and downs of the market over the past couple of years, and advised us to put it back on the market at exactly the right time.
"As a local Charity supported by local people, we were keen for the building to be retained as a care home and couldn't have wished for a better outcome. The sale will allow us to continue our work supporting the vision impaired in the local community at our head office in Richmond Road, whilst the Charity locates more suitable accommodation for a new community resource centre within the Borough."
The new owners, Mrs Alice Bock and her brother Mr William Jones, plan to open Wraysbury House in spring this year following completion of works to the building and a full refurbishment costing around £1m.
Alice Bock said: "We are delighted with our purchase of Wraysbury House and would like to thank Steve Berrett and his team at Michael Jones for all their hard work.
"We plan to provide hotel-style accommodation in all single en-suite bedrooms to cater for all types of dementias, including Alzheimer's, in a holistic and caring atmosphere." Any enquiries, please contact Mrs Bock at Wraysbury House, 1 Beccles Road.
