Six year old wins charity balloon race

Vale First School pupil, Caitlin Barnes, aged six, from Offington could not believe her luck upon learning that she had won a grand balloon race for charity and fifty pounds in cash.  Only a few weeks before, Caitlin had entered the fund raising competition with over 100 other children, organised in aid of Chestnut Tree House by award-winning estate and letting agents, Michael Jones. 

Caitlin’s balloon travelled west, all the way to Bristol where her winning ticket was returned to Michael Jones’ office in Findon Valley.  She was “over the moon” with her prize money and plans to save it for her holiday to Disneyland, Florida next year. 

The grand balloon race proved to be one of the most popular attractions of the late night shopping evening held by traders in Findon Valley for the children’s hospice.   One hundred and six balloons were bought by local parents and children, and released into the cold night.  Mince pies, face painting, a bouncy castle, rides and, of course, Santa in his Grotto were enjoyed by all.

Michael Jones’ Sales Consultant Rachel Goff (pictured with Caitlin) said:  “We were delighted with the numbers of families that braved the wintry weather and would like to thank everyone who took part.  It was great fun and a huge success, raising £197 for Chestnut Tree House.  As a company we are a keen supporter of the hospice and are looking forward to helping them generate vital funds through our ongoing sponsorship of the St Barnabas Fun Run and CTH 10k Coastal Run, which take place later this year.”
